I am excited to say I have now joined the 200+ group of #NUSCTO Alumni ! Completing the National University of Singapore - Chief Technology Officer Executive Education Programme marks a significant milestone giving me the ammunition to lead technology strategy and drive innovative transformation in organizations. This journey offers more than just knowledge, it shapes leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a deeper understanding of technology’s role in business success. Here, I share key insights and practical lessons from my experience in this intensive programme.

Understanding the Role of a CTO
The programme begins by clarifying what it means to be a Chief Technology Officer today. The role has moved from the traditional founding engineer managing IT infrastructure or software development teams. The role now requires balancing technical knowledge with business acumen, portfolio management, revenue growth planning and leadership skills.
Key takeaways include:
Strategic Vision: A CTO must align technology initiatives with the company’s overall goals. This means understanding market trends and customer needs.
Digital Transformation: The ability to direct a technology portfolio that can transform the business taking into consideration people, processes & culture to exploit business opportunities is essential.
Team Leadership: Building and nurturing diverse teams that innovate and deliver results is key to success.
These lessons helped me see the CTO role as a bridge between technology and business, not just a technical position.
Building Strong Technology Strategies
The curriculum covered frameworks for assessing current technology, identifying gaps, and planning future investments. I previously had experience helping build a tech roadmap at BHP, after completing the #NUSCTO course I feel it has exponentially improved the outcomes I can produce by improving my decision thought processes with the tools to validate, compare and commit to a business aligned vision.
Networking and Learning from Peers
The programme brought together experienced professionals from diverse industries. This created a rich environment for exchanging ideas and perspectives. Weekly group discussions allowed me to:
Apply deep thought concepts to problems
